Bob Dylan's Tell Tale Signs - 07.29.2008

Bob Dylan is just that famous. And really, he's just that good (Pulitzer Prize, anyone?). He can release, like, 8 gajillion standard albums (refer), and still release a rarities collection to what I'm sure will be an eager audience. Tell Tale Signs: Rare and Unreleased 1989-2006 comes out on October 7th, and will the eighth installment in his ongoing Bootleg Series. And (duh) it will span the musician's career from 1989 to 2006:

Disc 1:

01. Mississippi (previously unreleased, Time Out of Mind sessions)
02. Most of the Time (alternate version, Oh Mercy sessions)
03. Dignity (piano demo, Oh Mercy sessions)
04. Someday Baby (alternate version, Modern Times sessions)
05. Red River Shore (previously unreleased, Time Out of Mind sessions)
06. Tell Ol' Bill (alternate version, North Country soundtrack sessions)
07. Born in Time (previously unreleased, Oh Mercy sessions)
08. Can't Wait (alternate version, Time Out of Mind sessions)
09. Everything Is Broken (alternate version, Oh Mercy sessions)
10. Dreamin' of You (previously unreleased, Time Out of Mind sessions)
11. Huck's Tune (from the Lucky You soundtrack)
12. Marchin' to the City (previously unreleased, Time Out of Mind sessions)
13. High Water (For Charley Patton) (live in Niagara Falls, Ontario 2003)

Disc 2:

01. Mississippi (version two) (previously unreleased, Time Out of Mind sessions)
02. 32-20 Blues (previously unreleased, World Gone Wrong sessions)
03. Series of Dreams (previously unreleased, Oh Mercy sessions)
04. God Knows (previously unreleased, Oh Mercy sessions)
05. Can't Escape From You (previously unreleased, December 2005)
06. Dignity (previously unreleased, Oh Mercy sessions)
07. Ring Them Bells (live at the Supper Club, New York, 1993)
08. Cocaine Blues (live in Vienna, Virginia, 1997)
09. Ain't Talkin' (alternate version, Modern Times sessions)
10. The Girl on the Greenbriar Shore (live in Dunkerque, France, 1992)
11. Lonesome Day Blues (live in Sunrise, Florida, 2002)
12. Miss the Mississippi (previously unreleased, 1992)
13. The Lonesome River (with Ralph Stanley, from Clinch Mountain Country)
14. 'Cross the Green Mountain (from the Gods and Generals soundtrack)

Disc 3:

01. Duncan & Brady (previously unreleased, 1992)
02. Cold Irons Bound (live, Bonnaroo, June 2004)
03. Mississippi (version three) (previously unreleased, Time Out of Mind sessions)
04. Most of the Time (alternate version two, Oh Mercy sessions)
05. Ring Them Bells (alternate version, Oh Mercy sessions)
06. Things Have Changed (live, Portland, Oregon, 2000)
07. Red River Shore (version two) (previously unreleased, Time Out of Mind sessions)
08. Born in Time (version two) (previously unreleased, Oh Mercy sessions)
09. Tryin' to Get to Heaven (live, London, England, 2000)
10. Marchin' to the City (version two) (previously unreleased, Time Out of Mind sessions)
11. Can't Wait (alternate version two, Time Out of Mind sessions)
12. Mary and the Soldier (previously unreleased, World Gone Wrong sessions)

You'd think that the music alone would be enough to satisfy even the most devoted Dylan fan. However, there will actually be three different options in which to enjoy this collection:

1. Standard 2-disc, which includes some rare photos and liner notes from Larry "Ratso" Sloman
2. Limited edition 3-disc, which contains 12 more tracks (because 36 isn't enough?), plus a hardcover book of Dylan singles artwork - all packaged in a fancypants slipcase
3. Four-LP set, 180 gram vinyl, 12" x 12" box

Video: Devendra Banhart - 07.29.2008
So this one has been circulating the Interwebs for a few days now, but it's worth posting nonetheless. For one, a Devendra Banhart video is pretty much always worth posting, and for another, this particular video features Devendra and his new-ish lady friend, Natalie Portman. Perhaps you've heard of her?

Anywho, here's "Carmensita," from last year's Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon:

David Byrne and Brian Eno release new Everything - 07.29.2008

Umm, I'll take New and Surprising Awesome Albums for $200, Alex. Given the fact that David Byrne and Brian Eno released My Life in the Bush of Ghosts in fricken' 1981, a new album from the two legendary musical collaborators is really exciting.

Entitled Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, this album will be self-released via EverythingThatHappens.com starting August 18th (to purchase or just stream). For the really anxious types and uber-fans, the first song ("Strange Overtones") will be available starting August 4th:

01. Home
02. My Big Nurse
03. I Feel My Stuff
04. Everything That Happens
05. Life Is Long
06. The River
07. Strange Overtones
08. Wanted for Life
09. One Fine Day
10. Poor Boy
11. The Lighthouse

Both regular and deluxe editions of the CD will be available at a later date. And as quoted by Eno in a press release: "When we started this work, we started to think we were making something like electronic gospel: a music where singing was the central event but whose sonic landscapes were not the type normally associated with that way of singing."
