R.I.P. Donna Summer - 05.17.2012
TMZ reports that Donna Summer, a legend of disco and soul music, died after a long battle with cancer. She was 63 years old. Summer made a name for herself with some of the most successful and groundbreaking tracks of the disco era, such as "I Feel Love" and "Love to Love You Baby," as well as '80s hits such as "Hot Stuff." Summer was reportedly working on a new album, and intended to keep her illness a secret.
Summer was born LaDonna Andrea Gaines in Boston, and moved to Germany in the mid-70s. She then began to collaborate with producer Giorgio Moroder, which resulted in two of her most well known singles, "Love to Love You Baby" and "I Feel Love," which have been massively influential to a variety of pop and electronic musicians. She has received five Grammys and was nominated for induction in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.
