R.I.P. Jon Lord of Deep Purple - 07.16.2012


Jon Lord, founder and keyboardist of pioneering UK hard rockers Deep Purple died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 71 years old.

A statement on his official website reads, “It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jon Lord, who suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism today, Monday 16th July at London Clinic, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.”

Lord joined Deep Purple in 1968, and co-wrote some of their best-known songs, including "Child In Time" and "Smoke On the Water." In addition to playing with Deep Purple, Lord had a successful solo career and played alongside other bands like Whitesnake, and even had a parallel career as a modern classical composer, having performed with the London Symphony Orchestra.

Wire, Mission of Burma playing Shellac-curated ATP - 07.16.2012


The first round of acts has been announced for the Shellac-curated All Tomorrow's Parties Nightmare Before Christmas festival in the UK. In addition to Shellac, the list of artists includes Wire, Mission of Burma, The Ex + Brass Unbound, Shannon Wright, Red Fang, Arcwelder, Scrawl, Bear Claw and The Membranes, among others. More will be announced in the months to come.

ATP Nightmare Before Christmas will be held Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 at Camber Sands Holiday Centre in the UK.

Passion Pit cancel tour dates - 07.16.2012


Passion Pit have announced a series of cancellations on their upcoming tour, as a result of frontman Michael Angelakos taking time for mental health treatment. In a statement posted on the group's website, Angelakos said, to “ensure that there will be no further disruptions, I am going to take the time to work on improving my mental health.” Check out the band's tour itinerary below, including the canceled dates.

Flying Lotus working with Thom Yorke again - 07.16.2012


Flying Lotus and Radiohead's Thom Yorke previously collaborated on 2010's Cosmogramma, on the trippy standout "And the World Laughs with You." In an interview with Rolling Stone, FlyLo, aka Stephen Ellison, reveals that the two are working together again on new album Until the Quiet Comes, due out this fall.

"I definitely respect what he's up to..." Ellison said. "The biggest surprise to me in getting to know him is that he's a funny guy. He's the jokey one."
