Prince announces Chicago residency - 08.31.2012

Last year, Prince played an entire month of shows in Los Angeles, giving fans many, many chances to hear His Purple Badness play anything from Purple Rain material on up to his LotusFlow3r/MPLSound releases. This year, he's planning a residency in Chicago, which marks his first time playing in the city since 2004.

The series of shows begins Sept. 24 at United Center, and while the duration of the residency has not yet been announced, tickets go on sale Sept. 6. Prince has also announced a partnership with Rebuild the Dream, an organization that aims to be "a platform for bottom-up, people-powered innovations to help fix the economy not just here in the U.S. but globally as well." Representatives from the nonprofit will be at the shows.

Talk Talk's Mark Hollis returns - 08.31.2012

Mark Hollis, the frontman of legendary post-rock and new wave band Talk Talk, has been an icon of mystery and intrigue for decades. He's been something of a recluse since releasing his one solo recording in 1998, to date his only new music since Talk Talk's swan song masterpiece, Laughing Stock.

This morning, Pitchfork reported that Hollis has, indeed, recorded some new music, which will be included in the show "Boss," starring Kelsey Grammer. The episode scheduled to air Sept. 21 will feature a new piece from Hollis titled "ARB Section 1," which will play during the final scene and closing credits.

Music supervisor Brian Reitzell is largely to thank for getting Hollis back into recording and composing. Reitzell had been attempting to work with Hollis for more than a decade, and recently succeeded while working on music for a film titled Peacock, starring Cillian Murphy and Susan Sarandon. After receiving the script, Hollis was inspired and ended up writing a piece for it. It ended up not being used in the film, but Reitzell said it seemed to fit in with the feel of "Boss."

This season of "Boss" also features music from Oneohtrix Point Never, Air, Califone's Tim Rutili and My Morning Jacket's Jim James.

Video: Trash Talk - "F.E.B.N." - 08.31.2012
On Oct. 9, Trash Talk release their debut for Odd Future Records, titled 119. While we wait for the full set of manic Sacramento hardcore, the band has released a new video for "F.E.B.N.," which was directed by Tyler the Creator (as Wolf Haley). It's pretty standard punk/Odd Future stuff: skateboarding, graffiti, crazy live action, some naked ass cheeks, you know, the usual. Watch it below!
