Bailter Space Wammo vinyl reissue

Matador Records has announced a reissue of Bailter Space’s Wammo. On February 12, the New Zealand shoegaze/noise rock band’s 1995 album will be back on vinyl for the first time since its original release (on orange vinyl—see above), remastered from its master tapes. It’s part of Matador’s Revisionist History series, which has already seen the reissues of albums by Pavement, Yo La Tengo, Guided by Voices, Chavez and Mary Timony.

Mogwai’s Barry Burns says in a statement about the album’s influence, “Mogwai’s frequent visits to the Matador office invariably resulted in Patrick, Chris, or pretty much anyone on their coffee break generously shoving records in our faces and convincing us that ‘if we hadn’t heard this band already, our lives were about to get better.’ Bailter Space was one of those bands. I loved the use of just one or two chords (economical!) with vocals that I was happy enough with being almost indecipherable. Listening back to Wammo, that guitar sound hasn’t dated to my ears at all. Please generously shove this record in your face.

Check out the tracklist below as well as the original video for “Splat.” Find preorder info for the reissue here.
