Eli Winter announces new album, A Trick of the Light

Eli Winter has announced a new album. The guitarist has revealed the details of A Trick of the Light, which is out May 2 via Three Lobed. It features appearances from Mike Watt, David Grubbs and Kiran Leonard, as well as featuring compositions by Don Cherry and Carla Bley. Today he’s shared the first single, “Cracking the Jaw,” which you can check out below.

Winter said in a statement that the new single is “The closest thing I have to a pop song. It’s quite dark in comparison to my past work—a car about to crash. I began playing it on solo tours, and its focus tightened as I rehearsed and performed it with Tyler Damon, Sam Wagster and Andrew Scott Young. Almost everything you hear comes from the lucky thirteenth take. On some level I hope it sets the title to music.”

Eli Winter’s last album was his 2022 self-titled record.
