Hear Phil Spector’s Gun’s new set of barnburning psychedelia, “I Don’t Know I Guess”
At first glance, Phil Spector’s Gun’s Bandcamp profile presents as charming generational incompetence. Their page features live recordings with crudely stretched cover art, indiscernible photographs that scream, “We’re retired! The gig economy!” Among several live records are PSG frontguy Kevin Brusha’s Self Proclaimed Greatest Hits compilation, the noise-coated a hero’s recovery, and phone demos, which contains a handful of Thee Oh Sees covers. It’s silly, but the band is dialed into nonsense, and it’s difficult to imagine the group being anything but a good-natured bunch of knuckleheads. And if you read the fine print, you’ll know “Absurd is the word, ya heard?”
Hot off the heels of their tour with Philadelphia compatriots Nyxy Nyx, Phil Spector’s Gun are sharing their third single from the upcoming Highway 61 Exploded. “I Don’t Know I Guess” is a barn burnin’, bootgazin’, de-luxe cut that sits and drifts into a woozy, psychedelia. PSG’s latest single is also an extra special cut. The song was written by Brusha’s late cousin Mike Parry (Ugh God, Worshipper, Chamomile), and the band make a point to include one Parry-penned track on each of their records.
Phil Spector‘s Gun are on tour this November. Highway 61 Exploded will be out on wax on Blight Records on October 27th. Grip the disc and check out “I Don’t Know I Guess” below:
