Fugazi Albini sessions

Today is Bandcamp Friday, which means a lot of artists and labels are putting up special releases today, since Bandcamp is forgoing its share of sales for 24 hours. One of those artists doing so is Fugazi, who have released something of a holy grail in the form of the Albini Sessions. When the band were working on their 1993 album In on the Kill Taker, they took a minivan up to Chicago from Washington, D.C., to record a few songs, which eventually ended up being an entire album’s worth of material. And while by all accounts everyone involved seemed to enjoy the experience, both the members of Fugazi and Albini himself subsequently reached the conclusion that the sessions weren’t fit to be released as an album, and thus they were eventually scrapped in favor of a new session recorded with Ted Niceley at D.C.’s Inner Ear.

Fugazi have, after it being shelved in the archives for decades, released the full sessions on Bandcamp, with the band’s proceeds being donated to Letters Charity, which provides direct assistance to families facing urgent financial hardship. Listen and download below.
