Hear The Olympians’ soulful new groove, “Strawberry Kiwi”

On February 13, New York soul-funk outfit The Olympians—the project of musician and songwriter Toby Pazner—are releasing their sophomore album In Search of a Revival via Daptone. It arrives 10 years after their 2016 self-titled debut. And after sharing early singles “California” and “Honey Bea,” today, they’ve shared another new song from the album, “Strawberry Kiwi.” It’s a velvety and lush, analog groove rife with bright flashes of horns and elegant twinkles of piano, reminiscent of classic ’70s-era soul but with that Daptone touch of timeless immediacy. Pazner cites Sly Stone and James Brown as influences on the song, with the drums taking a cue from Outkast’s “So Fresh, So Clean.” Hear it below.
