Hear the new album from noise-rock group Tunic, Wrong Dream
On Friday, Canadian noise rock trio Tunic release their new album Wrong Dream via Artoffact Records. The group’s third record follows 2021’s Quitter, and here the band builds on their taut, aggressive approach, still steeped in abrasive textures and heavy rhythms, but with more space and tension between the moments of explosive climax. It’s an album as much about the anxious in-between as it is the moment of impact, and the band is streaming it in full today ahead of its release tomorrow.
Tunic’s David Schellenberg said in a statement, “For the longest time Tunic used to be about punishing the listener with the loudest, fastest and most intense songs possible and we still hold true to that a lot of the time now, especially live, but we’re just adding a bit more dimension to our songs now. To be honest, I wasn’t always confident in my songwriting abilities so I played it safe with short, fast and intense songs. Since we had time to develop these songs and to avoid creating a record that sounded too similar to our previous work, I was able to demo them over and over again in my home studio and become a bit more confident in exploring more melody and less noise.”
He added, “this record is about pursuing the ‘wrong dream’ be it a lifestyle that leads you down a negative path that leads you to illness or pursuing ‘the American dream’ of capitalism. I have no advice to give, I have no idea if I’m on the ‘right’ path myself. I just try to be happy and fulfilled in my life and I hope that others can find that too.”
