Pleasure Forever reissuing two early compilations, share haunting “An Exact Seance”

Last year, Bay Area gothic punk trio Pleasure Forever—vocalist/keyboardist Andrew Rothbard, drummer Dave Clifford and guitarist Joshua Hughes (all ex-The VSS)—made their return with their first new record in two decades, Distal. Now the group is reissuing two sets of earlier material, The Devil’s Pleasures and Bodies Need Rest. The former combines the band’s first two EPs from 1997 and 1999, while Bodies Need Rest, originally released in 2007, features rare non-album tracks from the band. They’re both being re-released—Devil’s Pleasures on December 20 and Bodies Need Rest on November 8—via Permanent Teeth (pre-order here).
Today, the band has shared “An Exact Seance” from The Devil’s Pleasures, a tense and slow burning gothic dirge that gradually rises to a powerful and noisier climax. It’s a perfectly eerie post-punk song for the Halloween season, riding a bed of creeping basslines and taut, minimalist guitars, and you can hear it below.
