Watch Shaylee’s intimate new clip for “Ophelia”

Portland artist Shaylee, the project of singer/songwriter Elle Archer, is planning to release a new album via Kill Rock Stars in 2022. But today, they’ve shared a new video for the recently released single “Ophelia.” The track is an upbeat, melodic indie pop track that’s loaded with hooks that don’t always go where you expect them to, with a slight psychedelic twang in the vein of (Sandy) Alex G’s recent records. The video, produced and shot by Eric Harrod, juxtaposes at-home performance clips with moments of intimacy between two lovers and an epic motorcycle ride. It’s a song whose melody won’t leave your head anytime soon, with a heartfelt visual to match, and signals big things on the way from Shaylee.
When the song was first released back in September, Shaylee released the following statement about it: “‘Ophelia’ is a song about the kind of romance that burns bright and fizzles out quickly. Sometimes love isn’t meant to last, but that doesn’t make it any less valid or visceral or real. These kinds of short, explosive relationships can provide some of the most memorable experiences life can offer, and my brief relationship with Ophelia during the first covid lockdown was no different. This song is an attempt to capture that lightning in a bottle to show the world what our love was like just as the wave began to crest.”
