Hear the gloomy new dream pop single from Still Ruins, “Of Devotion”
On Friday, post-punk group Still Ruins release their new debut, self-titled EP via Smoking Room. The Oakland-based trio of Frankie Soto, Cyrus VandenBerghe and Jose Medina formed in 2018 (VandenBerghe joined in 2020). And after releasing their first single “Perfect Blue” back in November, today, they’ve shared new song “Of Devotion,” which features a new video as well.
“Of Devotion” is a gloomy and shimmering dream pop gem, reminiscent of the moody gothic rock of The Chameleons as well as the blockbuster pop of early Tears for Fears or the intricate pop sheen of the likes of Prefab Sprout. It’s a stunning piece of new wave pop with gauzy layers and an electronic pulse, vintage in tone without being overly nostalgic, gorgeous while retaining a spacious simplicity. Hear the new song below (and watch its video) and pre-order the EP over at Smoking Room.
