Hear L.A. shoegazers Shaki Tavi’s crunchy new single “Breaker”
On August 15, Los Angeles shoegaze group Shaki Tavi will release new album Minor Slip via felte. And today, they’ve shared a new video for “Breaker,” which is the second single from the album. The clip is directed by Sean Stout and features the group’s leader Leon Manson crawling on a checkered floor, frolicking in a field and other fitting visuals to go with its propulsive, hazy sound. “Breaker,” true to its title, is driven by a breakbeat rhythm, as well as big, crunchy guitar riffs, like if Dinosaur Jr. had more of a Madchester influence or Chapterhouse turned up the fuzz even louder. It’s catchy as hell, and it rips.
Manson said of the song in a statement, “It was the first product of reapproaching music with no thought of what it could bring me besides joy; after finishing it, the flow of ideas was nonstop.”
