Today, New York group A Deer A Horse release their debut album Grind, via Bitter Records. And today, the band has also shared a new video for “Give It Up,” directed and edited by Garrett Weinholtz. The clip is a black and white video that depicts different figures singing the lyrics to the track, albeit cut off just underneath the eyes. There are also shots of a church and rosary beads, flecking the clip with austere religious imagery that alludes to something much darker and more sinister. The song itself, however, is both sludgy and melodic, a catchy anthem with a mighty roar at its back. Check it out below.

“Our former guitar player, Rebecca Seatle, wrote the lyrics to ‘Give It Up’ after watching the film ‘Spotlight,’ about the Boston reporters that uncovered rampant sexual abuse within the Roman Catholic Church,” the group says in a press release. “It’s an indictment of unchecked power and privilege. ‘Show it to the world and the world cleans your hands’ speaks to the way society perpetuates sexual violence, how the powerful are often exonerated, and how trust can blind us to truth.”
