On April 26, Oakland darkwave group Houses of Heaven release their new album Within/Without via felte. The group has already shared a couple of singles from the album, including the title track—which we named an Essential Track. Today, they’ve released the third single and leadoff track, “Strange Temptation,” which pairs ominous, oozing goth-industrial menace and atmospheric gloom with an undeniable danceability.

Singer Keven Tecon said in a statement that the song “captures the sense of being emotionally confined or limited by the bonds of love” and “the relentless pursuit of fulfillment that forever remains just out of reach.”

It’s yet another indication that 2024 is shaping up to be a stellar year for dark music, but it’s also a hell of a lot of fun. Fishnets and leather gloves are optional, but turn this one way up after dark sets in and enjoy the sinister indulgence. Hear Houses of Heaven’s “Strange Temptation” below.
