Jim White releases video for two new songs, “Jully” and “Uncoverup”
Jim White, longtime member of Dirty Three and collaborator with PJ Harvey, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Nina Nastasia, just released his debut solo album, All Hits: Memories via Drag City. Today, he’s shared a video for two of the new tracks, “Jully,” which is described according to White himself as a reflection of “Winter in Melbourne, Summer in NY,” and “Uncoverup,” which he says is about “when uncovering is the cover up.”
The new video for the two songs, directed by Braden King, gives a closeup of White’s snare drum and hands as his brushed playing style creates a kind of hypnotic visual effect throughout the two low-key but mesmerizing instrumental pieces. It’s a simple but dazzling clip that gives an intimate showcase of White’s signature artistry.
King said of the videos, “Working on these pieces was such a pleasure. The editorial process felt musical – similar feelings of association and intuition. Grooving. In many ways, though, the music was all visual – Jim’s ‘dances’ were instructive – I just had to listen with my eyes and ears.”
