Angel Olsen, Jamila Woods, Bruce Hornsby on Jagjaguwar covers album, Join the Ritual

Jagjaguwar has announced a new compilation of covers titled Join the Ritual. It’s part of the label’s ongoing 25th anniversary celebration, and its title and artwork nod to the “company’s roots in Dungeons and Dragons,” according to a press release. The compilation also pays homage to other independent labels such as Drag City, Touch and Go and K Records, through its artists’ choices of covers, which include Besnard Lakes covering Slint, Angel Olsen covering Smog, S. Carey taking on Low, and Nap Eyes doing a Built to Spill cover. The compilation is out September 24.

Two tracks from the album have been released today: Bruce Hornsby covering Dinosaur Jr.’s “Feel the Pain” (yes, you read that correctly) and Jamila Woods covering Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” Hear them both below.
