My Bloody Valentine front-man Kevin Shields, who’s interviews are quite rare, has told The Guardian that Brit-pop was a government conspiracy, citing genre superstars Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn’s friendliness with Tony Blair, as well as the singers’ vocal support of the Labour government
“Britpop was massively pushed by the government,” Shield told the Guardian. “Someday it would be interesting to read all the MI5 files on Britpop. The wool was pulled right over everyone’s eyes there.”
