Late in 2019, San Diego’s heavy deathrock troupe New Skeletal Faces released their debut album, Celestial Disease. And now, the group has unveiled a new video for album standout “Leather Funeral.” Filmed and edited by photographer Chad Kelco—whose work has frequently been showcased here at Treble—the clip, indeed, features a lot of leather. Shot with a “skeleton” crew (ha!) at San Diego’s Space Bar and Fiesta Island, it’s a grim, goth AF showcase of creepy atmosphere, skulls, candelabras, occult imagery and more than a little rock ‘n’ roll attitude to go around. Not to mention the fact that the song is a dark, majestic anthem in the vein of early Sisters of Mercy, Christian Death and recent goth-metal outfits like Idle Hands. Just because Halloween’s over doesn’t mean we can’t still revel in the darkness.
