Treble announces new quarterly columns

Every week around this time, Treble typically publishes a roundup of the week’s best new releases. But you probably noticed that today we didn’t. Ordinarily, we’d also publish our weekly Essential Tracks, but you also probably noticed that we didn’t do that either. As of this week, both columns are going into retirement. They had a good run, but with Friday release dates being what they are, they’re no longer a sustainable or worthwhile way to keep up with new music. And the sheer flood of new music that comes our way makes it much more difficult to cover everything as it’s being released. To paraphrase Crowded House, we’re trying to catch a deluge in a paper cup.

To make up for what we might potentially overlook, however, we’re rolling out a series of new quarterly columns covering a much wider spread of music, each one a specific niche: Punk, Ambient/New Age, Goth, Folk, Hip-hop, Electronic/Dance, Alt-Country/Americana, Psychedelia, Experimental and Vinyl reissues and box sets. Plus our long-running metal column, Shadow of the Horns, will continue in the rotation.

So while you’ll continue to get weekly updates on new music, they’ll come in a different form—more focused, deeper digs, more hidden gems and a more thorough look in what’s happening in different spheres of music. And more new music is always better.
