400+ artists back “No Music for Genocide” boycott

More than 400 artists have lent their support to No Music For Genocide, a cultural boycott initiative asking artists to remove their music from streaming services in Israel “in response to the genocide in Gaza; ethnic cleansing of the Occupied West Bank; apartheid within Israel; and political repression of Pro-Palestine efforts wherever we live,” per a statement from the campaign.
Among the artists who have signed on are Primal Scream, Massive Attack, Fontaines D.C., Arca, MIKE, Faye Webster, Rina Sawayama, Saul Williams, Wednesday, Mannequin Pussy, Japanese Breakfast, Yaeji, Kelela, King Krule, MJ Lenderman, Amyl and the Sniffers, Erika de Casier, Yeule, Grizzly Bear, Hand Habits, Hotline TNT, Julia Holter, Kelly Moran, Loraine James, Model/Actriz, and hundreds more.
No Music For Genocide is also asking major label groups such as Sony, UMG and Warner to do likewise.
A statement from the group reads, “Many of our peers have felt, like ourselves, unsure how to use music in this moment. Our first goal with No Music For Genocide is to inspire others to reclaim their agency and direct their influence toward a tangible act. We are so grateful for all of the artists, managers and labels who have already committed to this first step, and we’re excited to expand this together. The more of us there are, the stronger we will be. This is just the beginning.”
