On September 29, Kansas City slowcore band Flooding will release their new album Silhouette Machine. The group’s already shared one single, “Muzzle,” and today they’ve released another glacial scrape of a song, “Transept Exit.” As it takes shape, the song is a subtle, spacious slowcore dirge in the vein of Codeine, but erupts into a ferocious gnashing of noise rock. It’s intense and cathartic, a surprising explosion into heavy and excoriating aggression that its first few minutes only barely seem to hint at. It’s a white-knuckle ride that doesn’t move much faster than a crawl—like Duster slowly evolving into Chat Pile—which is what makes it that much more interesting. Hear Flooding’s “Transept Exit” below.
