Kim Deal has announced a new solo single, her first for 4AD to be released under her own name. It’s titled “Coast,” and you can hear it below.

Deal wrote “Coast” in 2020, after she heard a band at a friend’s wedding play “Margaritaville” with “revelatory levels of low self-esteem.” It also has roots in 2000, back when Deal spent some time in Nantucket (“I hate the sun, beach and watersports,” she said in a statement.) The song was recorded by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio, and it features contributions from Deal’s sister and Breeders bandmate Kelley, Lindsay Glover and Breeders alum Mando Lopez, and horns from Mucca Pazza.

The Breeders’ Last Splash is featured on our list of 91 Essential Alternative Rock Albums of the ’90s.
