The Cure to headline Austin City Limits
Austin City Limits has been taking some unusual steps to announce its lineup this year. The names of artists performing have been printed on bottle caps, beer koozies, coffee sleeves, cups and napkins in eateries throughout Austin, as well as in classified ads placed in the Austin Chronicle. Some of the artists announced thus far are Neko Case, Toro y Moi, D’Angelo, Portugal. The Man, Local Natives, Shuggie Otis, Smith Westerns, The Joy Formidable, Junip and Grouplove. The latest to be announced, however, is a biggie: The Cure.
Cure fansite A Chain of Flowers made the announcement yesterday, after someone found a bottlecap that read “The Cure #aclfest” on a bottle of Topo Chico Mineral Water, after the festival already posted an anagram of the band’s name (ERH TCUE) on its website. And as of right now, it is confirmed.
It’s probably unlikely that the band will play a four-hour, 50-song set like they did on Robert Smith’s birthday, but if sizable chunks of Disintegration and Pornography are part of the program, then fans should prepare themselves for something special.
Austin City Limits takes place over two weekends — Oct. 4-6 and Oct. 11-13 — in Austin, Texas.
