Watch a trailer for The Pedal Movie, which features Kevin Shields, J Mascis and more
Music marketplace Reverb has produced a full-length documentary film, titled The Pedal Movie. It’s described as “the most comprehensive look at how effects pedals have influenced the sound of popular music as we know it,” and features a long list of high-profile guitarists, including Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis, My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields, Blur’s Graham Coxon, Wilco’s Nels Cline, Steve Albini and more.
The film also highlights many of today’s major pedal makers as well, including Earthquaker Devices, Death by Audio, MXR, Line6, BOSS, Electro-Harmonix, JHS Pedals and DOD. The film chronicles the evolution of the effects pedal over time, beginning with its development (accidentally) in the 1960s. It’s billed as “The story of effects pedals, told by the builders who make them and the artists who bring their sounds to life.”
