In 2020, singer/songwriter Chris Frisina released the Carolina (Out of My Mind) EP via Sleepy Cat Records. And now, he’s following that with a new project under the name Lou Hazel. His debut single as Lou Hazel is “Claude the Armadillo,” which Treble debuts today via its new animated video, which brings an added visual storytelling to the track, which pairs an earthy Americana sound in the vein of early John Prine with the humorous mysticism of a singer/songwriter like Bill Callahan.

The song itself is a warmly charming and upbeat country-folk tune with a catchy, finger-picked guitar melody, which pairs perfectly with its animated video. The clip, animated by Alex Derwick, follows the adventures of a mysterious cartoon armadillo (one who wears a cowboy hat and chews on a matchstick) and who offers some sage wisdom about the world. It’s both a fun and thought-provoking clip, and you can check it out below.
