The Jesus and Mary Chain say they’re working on new album

The last time the Jesus and Mary Chain released a new album was back in 1998, when the Reid Brothers dropped Munki on Sub Pop. And since then, they have released a new song, “All Things Must Pass,” which was featured on the since-canceled NBC series Heroes. But as for a new album? Well, that’s something that has yet to surface, and interviews with the band have hinted at a new album since as far back as 2007. And yet, it hasn’t arrived yet.
Still, that doesn’t mean it’s not coming, necessarily. In an interview with Time Out, Jim Reid said that the band is in the studio right now, working on their first album in 17 years:
We’re doing an album now. We actually just started recording. It’s early days, but I would say it’s a more mature sound for the Mary Chain. But let’s just wait and see.
We’ll see if that album comes out before 2018, but in the meantime, the prospect is certainly exciting.
The Jesus and Mary Chain’s “Just Like Honey” is on our list of the Top 200 Songs of the ’80s.
