Jason Isbell The Nashville Sound review

On Friday, June 16, Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit will release their new album, The Nashville Sound, via his own Southeastern imprint. It just so happens to be our Album of the Week right now—which means we like it a whole lot. In his review of the album, Langdon Hickman credits Isbell’s band The 400 Unit as the secret ingredient to making an already good thing, Isbell’s songwriting, that much greater by way of some excellent country-rock arrangements: “Their greater presence is precisely the trick to retune the machine.”

If that’s got you interested in the sound of the album, then you’re in luck. Before the album is released on Friday, NPR First Listen is streaming The Nashville Sound in its entirety.

Listen to the full Jason Isbell The Nashville Sound stream over at NPR Music.

The Nashville Sound follows Isbell’s 2015 album, Something More Than Free.
