Watch Nick Cave, Bono, Sinead O’Connor pay tribute to Shane MacGowan
Shane MacGowan, singer of legendary Irish band The Pogues, turned 60 years old on Christmas Day. And to honor his legacy, a long list of artists paid tribute to the iconic musician last night. At Dublin’s National Concert Hall, MacGowan was treated to a musical tribute from the likes of Nick Cave, Johnny Depp, The Libertines’ Carl Barat, Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, Glen Hansard, Cerys Matthews, The Pogues’ guitarist Terry Woods, the band’s ’90s-era vocalist Spider Stacy and special surprise guests Bono and Sinead O’Connor. The band backing them also included other members of The Pogues, including bass player Cait O’Riordan and banjo/mandolinist Jem Finer, as well as The Attractions’ Steve Nieve, Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock, singer/songwriter Jesse Malin and Blondie drummer Clem Burke. The evening’s programming included a number of classic songs from throughout MacGowan’s career, including many celebrated Pogues songs.
