Stoner metal titans Sleep have returned with their first new music in eight years. Following the release of their 2018 album The Sciences, the group offer up new single “Have Spacesuit Will Travel.” They’re also planning the release of the first issue of the Sleep Comic Book, written by bassist and songwriter Al Cisneros, which is now up for pre-order via Third Man Books.

“Have Spacesuit Will Travel” represents a new chapter for the band, as longtime guitarist Matt Pike has departed the group. The new lineup of Sleep comprises Cisneros, drummer Dale Crover of The Melvins, and guitarist Bubba Dupree, formerly of hardcore icons Void and grunge outfit Hater. A press release states, “The music and art are alive and after the decades of obstacles that Sleep has overcome, it is time to move forward and make songs and albums. Al wishes Matt the best on his earth bound maneuvers.”

Cisneros said in a statement, “The vibe of the first jam was obvious. It was blue sunglasses-era Iommi in the quality, and equally awesome is Bubba is also one of the coolest people I’ve been able to make music with.”

Sleep’s The Sciences was one of our Top 50 Albums of 2018.
