Arcade Fire, Karen O, Owen Pallett receive Oscar nominations
The list of nominees for the 2014 Academy Awards have been revealed, and we’re looking at another year with some indie underdogs (sorta). Karen O is up for a Best Original Song award for her song “The Moon Song,” co-written by Spike Jonze and featured in his film Her. Other nominees in the Best Original Song category are Pharrell’s “Happy” (from Despicable Me 2), U2’s “Ordinary Love” (from Mandela), Bruce Broughton and Dennis Spiegel’s “Alone Yet Not Alone” (from Alone Yet Not Alone), and Kristen Anderson-Lopez/Robert Lopez’s “Let it Go” (from Frozen).
In the Original Score category, Arcade Fire and Owen Pallett are nominated for their music for Her. Their competition in this category includes The Book Thief, Gravity, Philomena, and Saving Mr. Banks. The Academy Awards will air on March 2 on ABC. Check out the full list of nominees here, and stream “The Moon Song” below.
