Hear an epic new ripper from Drifter, “The Silence That Follows”

On May 23, Lawrence, Kansas post-metal group Drifter will release their new album, Grigori. And today, they’ve shared a new song from the album, the eight-minute epic “The Silence That Follows.” The song has a tense, dramatic build, but they get to the thunder soon enough, delivering a hefty dose of sludge less than two minutes in, laying down a brawny set of riffs that recall the likes of vintage Isis, as well as more recent acts like Glassing, with whom they’ve shared the stage. Hear the group’s new ripper below, and pre-order the album here.
Bassist and vocalist Dean Edington said in a statement, “In many ways, ‘The Silence That Follows’ is our most straightforward song, but I also feel like it takes you on an acute emotional journey through loss and grief and acceptance. Those things tend to hit suddenly in waves and in the stillness that comes after, much like the dynamics of the song itself.”
