Hear a new track from Orquesta Akokán, “Mi Tienes Sin Cuidado”

Cuban ensemble Orquesta Akokán release their fourth album América! today via Daptone, and along with it, they’re releasing the final single from the album. Today they share “Mi Tienes Sin Cuidado,” which finds vocalist Kiko Ruiz singing over a baritone saxophone melody, eventually taking shape as an even bigger and lusher arrangement, eventually spiraling out into a mesmerizingly woozy improvisational section that carries more than a few shades of Mingus. It’s a thrilling and dramatic take on mambo swirled with a more avant garde flavor of jazz. Hear the track below, and check out the band’s upcoming tour dates.
