Watch KANGA’s gloomy, romantic video for “Godless”
Los Angeles synth-pop/electro-industrial artist KANGA recently released a new album, You and I Will Never Die, which will be released in March via Artoffact Records. And today, she’s shared the first video from the album, for “Godless.” The track is a dark-tinged yet highly catchy pop single that balances contemporary electronic sounds with traces of ’80s pop and more than a little darkwave and industrial influence—KANGA cites Nine Inch Nails as one of her biggest influences, and you can definitely hear that here. The video finds KANGA dancing alone outside in the dark, something that’s probably familiar to everyone in the post-pandemic world, but the gloomily romantic atmosphere to the video makes it so much more than bedroom Zoom dancing.
KANGA has shared a statement about the new video: “Venturing out to the unforgiving desert to film this continuous shot in the heart of darkness was an adventure greater than anything I could have dreamed of. Thank you to our brilliant director MJ Bernier (One of Many, “Motion” Boy Harsher) who brought this to life and thank you to our cinematographer Gemma Doll-Grossman and assistant camera Kendall Edwards for executing the shot. Special thanks to Kris Esfandiari for being an integral set of eyes, hands, and brains, Michael Mendoza for the on set photography, and our grip Jonathan Velazquez. This project is very special to me and I couldn’t have done it without you all. And thank you to everyone at home, I hope you like the video. x” Watch the clip for “Godless” below.
KANGA will also be performing a livestream on Thursday, December 10 (that’s tomorrow) at 5 p.m. eastern. It’s a ticketed pay-what-you-can show, and you can find more info here.
