King Gizzard Petrodragonic Apocalypse review

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have announced a new album. Following the release of five albums in 2022—Omnium Gatherum, Made in Timeland, Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava, Laminated Denim and Changes—the prolific Australian psych group has announced via social media that they’ve got another one on the way. And it has a doozy of a name: PetroDragonic Apocalypse; Or, Dawn Of Eternal Night: An Annihilation Of Planet Earth And The Beginning Of Merciless Damnation. Pre-orders for the album begin on May 16, though a proper release date for the album hasn’t yet been announced.

That’s the artwork for the album above, created by longtime visual collaborator Jason Galea, and on Instagram, the band described it as “a vivid, fiery painting of a lizard like monster in an industrial, apocalyptic landscape.” In a tweet a couple weeks ago, they described their next album as “heavy as fuck.”
