Broken Social Scene have announced a covers album featuring artists reinterpreting the songs on their 2002 album, You Forgot It In People. ANTHEMS: A Celebration of Broken Social Scene’s You Forgot It In People will be released on June 6, and features covers by the likes of Toro y Moi, Mdou Moctar, Sessa, serpentwithfeet, The Weather Station, Hovvdy and SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE.

The first song released from the tribute is Maggie Rogers & Sylvan Esso’s take on “Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl.” Hear it below.

“‘Anthems’ is one of those songs that fundamentally changed my life,” Rogers said in a statement. “There’s something about the lyrical repetition that functions as a sort of mantra within the song and it made me understand at a very early point in my creative life that music could be a form of meditation. Broken Social Scene has long been one of my all-time favorite bands and covering it with my dear friends Nick and Amelia from Sylvan Esso was an absolute joy beam dream.

A documentary about Broken Social Scene, It’s All Gonna Break, is also screening in May and June. Check for those here.

Broken Social Scene’s last album was 2017’s Hug of Thunder.
