Superchunk, Wye Oak, Titus Andronicus cover Georgia bands on Going to Georgia compilation
Today is the last Bandcamp Friday of 2020, which means a lot of new music is going up and a lot of artists are using their platform to give back. Merge Records has released a new digital compilation titled Going to Georgia, 100 percent of the proceeds of which will be donated to Fair Fight Action, in an effort to help Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock win Georgia’s two senate seats in the January runoff. The compilation features Merge bands covering Georgia artists, including Will Butler covering R.E.M., Superchunk taking on the Glands, William Tyler covering the Allman Brothers, Wye Oak taking on Pylon, Titus Andronicus covering Indigo Girls, H.C. McEntire covering Trisha Yearwood (with Angel Olsen and Indigo Girls’ Amy Ray), Fruit Bats covering Otis Redding, and Lambchop covering Yo La Tengo (who are from New Jersey, but their drummer is Georgia Hubley!). The compilation is named for a Mountain Goats song, though they’re not featured here unfortunately. Check out the tracklist below and stream/download the compilation.
