Shabazz Palaces – “Motion Sickness”
Shabazz Palaces have released yet another mind-bending music video from their outstanding new album, Lese Majesty. But this time around, the “Motion Sickness” video focuses on some more real-life concepts instead of the godlike and supernatural imagery in the clip for “#CAKE“. This one, directed by TEAN, follows a narrative that involves a drug dealer — who undergoes surgery at the beginning of the video — and struggles with her own addictions. But she also has a young girl, who wears a lot of gold jewelry, which most likely belongs to her mother. But the girl is also fascinated by space travel, and there are some shots of her watching an astronaut cartoon on her iPad, while imagining herself in outer space. It’s a far cry from some of the surrealism that Shabazz Palaces are known for, instead going for a more touching and heartbreaking story, which makes it that much more interesting. It’s definitely worth vieweing.
