Listen: John Carpenter’s “Vortex,” from upcoming Lost Themes
Halloween just got a little more Halloween. Or, John Carpenter, anyway. Sacred Bones Records — venerable New York label responsible for releasing some excellent records by Pharmakon, Zola Jesus and The Men — has gotten into the horror business of late, having released David Lynch’s Eraserhead soundtrack on vinyl in 2012 (which is super cool, of course). But now Sacred Bones is teaming up with another master of the macabre, famed director John Carpenter. And in 2015, Sacred Bones will release John Carpenter’s Lost Themes, featuring music composed by Carpenter and featured in his films.
Today, Sacred Bones gave fans a Halloween surprise in the form of “Vortex,” the first track to be released from the upcoming compilation. There’s no tracklist released from the album just yet, but the stream of “Vortex” is accompanied by visuals from several of Carpenter’s films, including Halloween, Big Trouble in Little China, Escape from New York and others. You can stream it here.
Since the compilation will feature original music from Carpenter, it’s likely we can expect music from those films, as well as They Live, The Fog, and other classics from the Carpenter oeuvre.
