Katie Crutchfield, better known as singer/songwriter Waxahatchee, just announced her signing to Merge Records. And with that signing comes the announcement of her new album, Ivy Tripp, due April 7. The album follows her 2013 breakthrough Cerulean Salt, and according to a press release, “brings forth a more informed and powerful recognition of where Crutchfield has currently found herself.” That’s the album art above.

“My life has changed a lot in the last two years, and it’s been hard for me to process my feelings other than by writing songs,” Crutchfield in a statement. “I think a running theme [of Ivy Tripp] is steadying yourself on shaky ground and reminding yourself that you have control in situations that seem overwhelming, or just being cognizant in moments of deep confusion or sadness, and learning to really feel emotions and to grow from that.”

Crutchfield just released the first track to stream from the album, titled “Air,” which finds Waxahatchee still sounding as intimate and beautiful, but more fleshed out in arrangement.

Listen to Waxahatchee’s “Air” below and check out her upcoming tour dates.
