Listen: Shabazz Palaces – “Forerunner Foray”
On July 29, Sub Pop will release Shabazz Palaces’ Lese Majesty, the Seattle hip-hop duo’s highly anticipated follow-up to 2011’s Black Up (our No. 2 album of 2011). We’ve already heard a couple of new tracks from the album, including “They Come In Gold” and “#CAKE,” and today, they’ve got yet another abstract rap gem to unleash. It’s called “Forerunner Foray,” and it’s the second track on the album. This “new sonic action” (as a press release describes it) comes in the form of a visually-enhanced stream, which isn’t so much a video as some kind of shimmering, psychedelic gif hologram. And when you get down to it, Shabazz Palaces is really hip-hop’s own version of a shimmering, psychedelic gif hologram. Or something along those lines anyway.
We’ll stop this navel-gazing nonsense and let you get to streaming the track below, which is absolutely worth your time.
