John Cale announces new album MERCY
John Cale has announced a new album. After sharing the new single “Night Crawling” earlier this year, Cale has announced the details of new album MERCY, which is out January 20 via Double Six/Domino. The album features guest appearances from Laurel Halo, Actress, Sylvan Esso, Animal Collective, Tei Shi and Fat White Family. Today he’s released new single “Story of Blood,” which features Weyes Blood. Check it out below, along with the album’s tracklist and Cale’s upcoming live dates.
Cale said in a press release, “I’d been listening to Weyes Blood’s latest record and remembered Natalie’s puritanical vocals. I thought if I could get her to come and sing with me on the ‘Swing your soul’ section, and a few other harmonies, it would be beautiful. What I got from her was something else! Once I understood the versatility in her voice, it was as if I’d written the song with her in mind all along. Her range and fearless approach to tonality was an unexpected surprise. There’s even a little passage in there where she’s a dead-ringer for Nico.”
John Cale’s last album was 2016’s M:FANS, a reworking of 1982’s Music for a New Society. His last album of all-new original material was 2012’s Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood.
