One of the most highly sought-after items on this year’s Record Store Day releases list was a split 7-inch featuring new music from Circa Survive and Sunny Day Real Estate. Yes, you read that correctly — Sunny Day Real Estate. “Lipton Witch” is their first newly released song in 14 years, their last set of new music being 2000’s The Rising Tide.
The song comes from some recording sessions from 2009, back when the band reunited for a series of U.S. tour dates that coincided with a series of reissues on Sub Pop. However, nothing really came of those sessions, so anyone who expected a brand new SDRE album would still be waiting five years after the fact. But today, Stereogum posted a stream of “Lipton Witch,” the only track (so far) to be released from those sessions. Listen to it below.
