R.I.P. Brent Hinds of Mastodon

Brent Hinds, former guitarist and vocalist in Mastodon, has died. He was 51.

As Atlanta New First reports, Hinds died in a crash while on his motorcycle last night, when the driver of an SUV failed to yield and collided with him.

Hinds was a member of Mastodon from the group’s beginnings in 2000, and is featured on every album they’ve released thus far, including their 2002 debut Remission, 2004’s Leviathan, 2006’s Blood Mountain on up to their most recent release, 2021’s Hushed and Grim.

As of March, Hinds was no longer in Mastodon after the band said that they have “mutually decided to part ways,” despite a less than charitable response from Hinds himself.

Hinds has also performed and recorded with a number of other projects over the years, including West End Motel and Fiend Without a Face, as well as Dirty B and the Boys, all of which remained active following his departure from Mastodon.
