R.I.P. Greg Gilbert of Delays
Greg Gilbert, vocalist and songwriter for UK band Delays, has died at age 44, The Guardian reports. Gilbert had been undergoing treatment for bowel cancer after first being diagnosed in 2016. His brother and bandmate announced the news on Instagram today. “This afternoon at 2:22; we walked my brother back home to somewhere out there in the ether,” he says. “Greg died surrounded in the endless love that us & all of you have given him on this journey.”
Greg and Aaron Gilbert formed Delays in the early 2000s in Southampton, first under the name Corky and then Idoru, before settling on Delays. Their first full-length, Faded Seaside Glamour, was released in 2004, featuring the singles “Nearer Than Heaven” and “Long Time Coming.” Three more albums followed, 2005’s You See Colours, 2008’s Everything’s the Rush and 2010’s Star Tiger Star Ariel.
Aaron Gilbert adds that he’s been “so lucky to have had a brother to carve out such impossibly beautiful moments with, and to show me the true meaning of grace, courage and strength.”
