The Mountain Goats announce The Sunset Tree 20th anniversary reissue
The Mountain Goats‘ 2005 album The Sunset Tree turns 20 this year, and for the occasion, 4AD has announced a 20th anniversary reissue. The Abbey Road remastered album will be release October 17 on CD, cassette and apricot-colored vinyl. The band have also released an upgraded version of the video for “This Year,” directed by Rian Johnson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Knives Out). Watch it below.
The album was John Darnielle’s most personal set of songs at the time it was released, which he reflected on at the time of its release: “I’ve put off writing about this stuff for years because I’m a little squeamish about milking my own trauma for art, and getting good songs rather than cry-fests from these experiences is a really excruciating process. And also because my stepfather was still alive.”
