Matthew Sweet recovering from stroke, GoFundMe launched to help pay for treatment

Singer/songwriter Matthew Sweet has suffered a stroke. The power pop artist recently announced via Instagram that he was canceling his upcoming tour dates due to illness. And now a GoFundMe has been launched to help pay for his medical bills. The page also includes more details about his condition.

“Matthew Sweet, our longtime inspiration and dear friend, suffered a debilitating stroke this past week in Toronto while in the early days of a national tour,” the page reads in part. “He has been unexpectedly and tragically forced off the road and onto a long, uncertain path to recovery. We are asking for financial help in this difficult time from his family, friends, and fans. Without insurance or touring income, Matthew faces an enormous financial burden.”

The cost of treatment and rehabilitation is expected to be near a quarter of a million dollars. Donations can be made here.
