Pharoah Sanders’ 1977 album Pharoah to be reissued as expanded box set
Pharoah Sanders‘ 1977 album Pharoah is being reissued via Luaka Bop. On September 15, it’ll be released as a box set featuring previously unreleased live recordings, archival material, extensive liner notes and photography. The accompanying 24-page booklet will also feature an interview with Sanders, who gave his blessing for the project before his death in 2022. Watch a trailer for the reissue below.
The release of the box set will also kick off a series of performances called “The Harvest Time Project: A Tribute to Pharoah Sanders.” A number of different artists will come together to perform the piece “Harvest Time,” which comprises the album’s A side. It makes its premiere at the Le Guess Who? festival in the Netherlands on November 12, featuring Irreversible Entanglements, Domenico Lancellotti, and special guest Tisziji Muñoz, under the musical direction of Joshua Abrams.
In 2021, Luaka Bop released Promises, the collaboration between Pharoah Sanders and Floating Points. It’s on our list of the 50 Best Albums of 2021.
