Rock Docs Podcast: Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple
After taking a brief summer break, Rock Docs has returned! And the team—hosts Andy Keatts and David Lizerbram—make their comeback with a film about a famous member of a famous band, a rock ‘n’ roll DJ, an actor, and an all-around rock legend: Stevie Van Zandt. You might know him as Little Stevie, member of the E Street Band and longtime sideman with Bruce Springsteen, or perhaps you know him as Silvio from The Sopranos. And his life and career is documented in Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple, an HBO/MAX doc directed by Bill Teck.
This doc has almost everything you ever wanted to know about the legendary sideman, front man, and Renaissance man. The man who likes scarves, who loves rock & roll, and who ain’t gonna play Sun City. If you’re a fan of almost any subgenre of rock music between approximately 1955-1990, or if you just thought he was fun in The Sopranos, you’ll dig this one.
Plus this week, Rock Docs gives a shout out to our recent-ish Treble 100 feature on Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run. (Give that a read!)
Hear the full episode below, and check out a trailer for the film as well.
